What is an androgen receptor?

How does the androgen receptor promote increased muscle size and strength?

  • The androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid hormone receptor family.
  • Androgen receptor ligands such as testosterone and locally synthesised dihydrotestosterone, bind to the androgen receptor.
  • Once together they relocate into the cell nucleus where they can turn on the genes and communicate instructions for the cell to perform.

For example, if the cell is within the muscle where contractile proteins are produced, this signals an increase in muscle size and strength. The mitochondrial proteins will supply increased fuel to the cell because it has been instructed to by the genes.

The equivalent happens within the bone and hair cells to promote growth and repair.

What are selective androgen receptor modulators?

In the last twenty years, clinical research has taken place in an effort to ascertain the biological characterisation of SARMs. The discovery of SARMS and other tissue-selective nuclear hormone receptor modulators has opened up a whole new range of treatments which harness the benefits of androgen receptors. When Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators bind to the androgen receptor, they demonstrate powerful anabolic activity.

This is seen both in muscle and bone. The novel way it accomplishes its task is very different to that of typical androgen receptor stimulators, synthetic and non-synthetic. Its methodology for gene transcription modification enables the outcome to be tissue specific. Through the utilisation of specific SARMs, benefits can be achieved without the risk of adverse side effects. This is made possible because the androgen receptors are being selective.

SARMs work more efficiently in some cells than they do in others. Some SARMS will inhibit the androgen receptor and hinder its role in the cell nucleus while others will accentuate its role and multiply the results. When prostate cells are targeted by SARMS, prostate growth is improved, and prostate health is maintained. When testosterone is bound to an androgen receptor, the positive effects occur throughout the body.

What is Ostarine?

Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator with the potential to promote powerful anabolic results. People familiar or who have in the past used the steroid primobolan, have compared Ostarine as similar in effect. The user /patient can expect increased muscle mass, a boost in nitrogen retention and improved bone and joint health.

Used in the treatment of osteoporosis, andropause and reversing muscle sarcopenia. It is also used for cachexia (a condition where there is significant weight loss, muscle wastage and fatigue) in patients with cancer.

Are the side effects from anabolic steroid use really that undesirable?

Steroidal androgens aka steroids typically convert to DHT or Oestrogen. Side effects listed for use of any pharmaceutical or therapy is usually an indication of discomfort or risk of experiencing side effects.

Side Effects Common with Use of Anabolic Steroids:

  • Severe acne, oily skin and hair
  • Hair loss – particularly with a genetic predisposition
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Heart disease – heart attack risk, high blood pressure
  • Mood Swings –  emotional dysregulation, irritability, aggression, depression, suicidal tendencies
  • Alterations in cholesterol and other blood lipids
  • Gynecomastia (abnormal growth in male mammary glands)
  • Shrinking of testicles
  • Menstrual irregularities in women
  • Infertility
  • Excess facial or body hair, deeper voice in women
  • Stunted growth and height in teens
  • Risk of viral or bacterial infections due to unsterile injections

The Androgen Receptor and Testosterone

The SARMs that provide the benefits of muscular growth and bone growth are those that accentuate the effect of the male hormone testosterone. However, SARMS offers this without the androgenic impact that testosterone would usually produce. This gives a distinct advantage whereby SARMS can be used by females. Because the hair and skin cells are not affected, excess hair does not occur.

The other benefit for men is that SARMS does not affect the prostate cells and therefore reduces or eliminates the unwanted side effects. Other testosterone supplementations can have an array of adverse side effects which may be highly detrimental to one’s health.

SARMS Injection and SARMS Peptide Cream

There are two forms of SARMs that we may offer our qualifying patients. Both of them can be administered via injection or be applied as a topical cream.

SARMS Injection

SARMs S-22 – Fluid base, requires a thinner diameter to inject but can be quite irritating and sting for a few minutes afterwards. Please note that this is not doing any harm just irritating the nerves.

SARMs S-22 -Forte (Ostarine Forte)- The Ostarine Forte has a 50% stronger concentration of the SARMs forte, but it’s in an oil base which means a more substantial needle is necessary for administration. The good news is that it does not have the same painful sting as SARMS S-22.

So the SARMs forte binds to the androgen receptor and then attaches to the androgen-sensitive genes in the cells of the body.

At Peptide Clinics we now provide SARMs as a topical cream. The molecules are so small they can be absorbed through the skin, but as with all creams, not everybody absorbs them well, in fact, 10% – 20% of people don’t. The good news is 80% – 90% do absorb it well giving them an alternative to injecting if they so choose. When SARMs is injected, barriers are bypassed making it 100% bio-available to the tissues of your body. As with any topical treatment, there is more room for error, i.e. absorption rates and of course, it can easily be wiped off. SARMs are a proven way for stimulating muscle and bone growth and for maintaining muscle mass. SARMS had provided us with the ability to potentially defer these health problems such as osteoporosis and sarcopenia longer than we could before SARMS were invented.

The Benefits of SARMS Forte (Ostarine)

The SARMS Forte (Ostarine Forte) the S-22,  accentuates the testosterone effects in bone and muscle tissue.

Using in both men and women is safe. It has also been used on people with catabolic diseases to further research the benefits.

It is used on people with severe burns that require medical intervention to assist them with their tissue repair and growth. On the flip side, it is also used for performance and image enhancing purposes.

There are similar molecules called SERMs- selective oestrogen receptor modulators. These are frequently used to treat people who are osteopenic as they stimulate bone cell growth.
